Precious stone

Topaz

Colourless, blue and sherry-toned topaz recovered from granite pegmatite and alluvium.

Formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2 Gemstones
Orthorhombic prism with basal cleavage Al2SiO4(F,OH)2

Overview

Topaz is recovered both from primary pegmatite pockets and from the alluvial gravels below them. The material takes a very high polish and holds it, which keeps it in steady demand from commercial jewellery manufacturers.

Where stones have been irradiated or heated to develop blue colour, that is stated plainly on the parcel documentation.

Applications

  • Commercial and fine jewellery
  • Large calibrated faceted stones
  • Collector specimens
